During ‘Get Online Week’ seems as good a time as any to draw attention to the false advertising claims by the UK’s many broadband suppliers. The Government quango charged with monitoring the situation (Consumer Focus), seems unable or unwilling to deal with the problem (now there’s a surprise), so perhaps it’s time we took the matter into our own hands.
We at Third Age are not alone in suffering an appallingly slow broadband service, despite paying for BTs most expensive business broadband package. We know this from speaking to people almost daily about the subject.
Superfast broadband? There’s a joke. Online users in the likes of South Korea get a better service than we do – 1.2mb on a good day, much less than 1mb on the average day. Some way short of BTs advertised claims of ‘up to 20mb’, and considerably slower than South Korea’s 100mbps.
So if you are one of the silent majority who simply puts up with being insulted by the claims of UK broadband providers, let us know. Individually we are sailing into the wind dragging the dead weight of apathy behind us, but collectively, we might just be able to do something about it.
And if all else fails, we can always move to South Korea, where the Korea Communications Commission is working on plans to provide up to 1,000mb for its internet users by the end of 2012!
