Here I can have my own Soap-box.
I can't keep up with those two boys.
Yes NZ is a young country and once a British Colony.
I am sure that it isn't quite as perfect as Mr ME writes.
Do they have snakes there …or prisons.
My mind is simple.

Actually Doreen, while NZ does have snakes, I'm not sure that they have any deadly ones. And while I'm sure they do have prisons, I'm given to understand that even Australia now exiles its criminals to the UK

In fact, and all joking aside, the son of a friend of ours has a theory. He and his university mates believe that somewhere along the line a deal has been done whereby that as an island, all the people that the rest of the world doesn't want are being sent here to contain them all in one place. Sounds bizarre maybe, but this is a theory not founded by those of us who are old and jaded, but by educated youngsters in this country. Who knows!

On a lighter note, we're off to enjoy the British countryside for a couple of hours. Have a great day everyone

Nowhere is perfect, Doreen, as we all know, but there must be something down under because they always have a smile on their faces. Maybe there's something in their water. I think New Zealand sent all the dangerous animals to Australia.
We had a lovely walk and I'm annoyed with myself I didn't take my camera. I could have got a really good photo of 3 deer. They were only a few feet away from me. Normally they're too far away for my camera. It's always the way, you have your camera and nothing happens. The time you don't have your camera you need it.

Hi again… Australia has just about all of the deadliest of creaures known to man except for man himself that is, fortunately we don't have Gaddaffi or Mugabe although we do have Dame Edna.
As you say Annmarie nowhere is perfect. There are still lovely spots back in the UK it's the cities that have the problems and that is world-wide I'm afraid. In Melbourne we have had a 500% increase in street assaults and all this is mostly in the city itself. Country areas everywhere are still reasonably safe and harmonius places, so you can't compare apples with oranges.
Australia and NZ too have problems in the cities just like Britain. So if you compare cities with cities and countryside with countryside then there is little difference. If I were to compare a country town in Australia like for instance Bairnsdale with Liverpool or London then of course Bairnsdale would be streets ahead in the liveable stakes. If I then compare Melbourne with Kings Lynn then Kings Lynn would be a much better place to live.
I don't know if I'm making myself clear. I have relatives in England that live in clean tidy villagers where everyone gets on with everyone and they too are mortified by the state of once familiar cities that were cleasn and hospitable. You can't judge a whole country by a few instances – or can you?
All I know is I was lucky to come here when I did because anyone could come in in those days; you could even jump ship and make a life here. That's how all the crime bosses got in! LOL These days even refugees fleeing horrifying oppression can't get in although if you have money of course you can buy yourself in.
Interesting topic

Tom, a quick correction. New Zealand does not have snakes only a couple of spiders that can give a nasty nip. We leave all the serious creatures to Australia, they handle them so well.
Shazza, lovely to see your name pop up once more. Along with my wife we will be in Queensland for just over a couple of weeks on the 22nd of this month … we can't wait.

Lovely to see you Shazza. Please don't hate me but I love Dame Edna and all the characters that Barry Humphries created. I enjoyed reading what you had to say.

I love Dame Edna too Annmarie
Sorry I'm an infrequent visitor. My computer bit the dust long ago and I was becoming computer dependent anyway so in a way it helped me kick the habit. I now only play with computers when I visit friends, well one friend in particular who is addicted to certain chat websites so I picked a different one to her and you're it! However, sometimes it's not convenient or appropriate when I'm with her so I don't always get to use it.
She warned me that forums such as these can cause a lot of angst between the reader and the poster and that I should rein myself in and not be too opinionated. This is something I find very hard as I have strong opinions on everything and have to remember the 'courtesy' rules. I did leave one website when I told a poster his views were unacceptable to me so I went before I was pushed!
Queensland ME? I do hope it is all up and running by the time you get there. Brisbane has been devastated. Had the Wivenhoe dam burst its banks there would have been no more Brisbane and it was only centimetres short of overflowing.
If I ever say anything inappropriate please tell me; living alone as I do I find that I do not have the checks and balances that others have and I can be a tad selfish (or so my good mate here tells me as she leans over my shoulder; go away you)
I respect all religions and I have nothing against migrants after all I'm one myself ! One thing that annoyed me when I came here was the way some British migrants complained about everything and tried to re-create a little England. Some people I knew only bought their familiar foodstuffs from the imported food shops and I thought that longing for Wall's sausages was carrying it all a bit far and these are the very people who complain about other cultures celebrating their heritage!
I'm off this afternoon but will catch youse all later sometime.
Best wishes
Shazza

I strongly believe you should be opinionated, you shouldn't be afraid to say what and how you feel but of course, this can be made acceptable in the way you phrase a post. Like Shazza, I have very strong opinions but I try to explain them in a the same way I would if chatting across a table with a cup of tea in hand.
I know Brisbane suffered damage from the recent storms but knowing the people they won't sit around waiting for the council to sort things out, they will be working with brooms and shovels tidying up the city they are so proud of. I am so looking forward to recording much of what I see on my camera, hopefully I will put some shots on here for people to judge for themselves when I return.

I have to say we are very lucky on this forum. We all have very strong and different opinions and I think it is nice to hear other peoples views. I don't use other forums because I don't have the time so I don't know what goes on on them.
I'm looking forward to your photos from Brisbane, 'ME'. As you know, my sister has friends there.

As this board is about this and that, I thought I might put this picture on for anyone who is interested in old or vintage cars. I was out with my camera yesterday when I came across this simply magnificent Studebaker. This has real class and I can well imagine Al Capone sitting in the back planning his next mischief.

Love the car. I love vintage cars. They had much more beautiful lines than cars of today. You're right, 'Me', you're just waiting for the gangsters to jump out and create mayhem. In the UK we don't make very many hand made cars any more and as of last Friday we make one less when Bristol cars went into administration.
One car I love is the Morgan (http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/). Morgan still hand build their cars and if you buy a new one you will have a long wait 1-2 years. The Morgan 3 Wheeler has just been relaunched. It looks great fun.
