Since about 5 am this morning a small fixed wing aeroplane has been circling above the town! It wasn't really loud enough to wake us, I don't know what did, but the plane was not obtrusive just puzzling. There's bound to be something on local radio about it. It's duck shooting season at the moment. Maybe their shooting from above instead of below! No! I think not. Perhaps it's Doreen looking for me.

Michael, I like the idea of Doreen looking for you. I firmly believe that young lady is waiting for you to the first member to chalk up their 400th post, with Doreen sitting on 399, I believe she may be shy.
As I have only just got back, am I allowed to ask what has happened to the 'Flower Of Hull'? I always enjoyed her matronly persona and she had the uncanny ability to keep posters in line, under threat of death or worse. I hope Lucy is now recovered from her recent sad loss and she will return to tell us all about the delights of Hull, and the joys of standing at the dock gates negotiating the latest deal on the price of cod cheeks.
If I recall correctly, didn't she have a high government official living close by? There can be no doubt a plant from MI6 to keep tabs on her political leanings, or any leanings after she had shifted a few bottles.
Beware of the demon drink. I now see the world differently since by drinks cupboard has been sealed off. Evidently alcohol and morphine can be fatal, I might add withdrawal symptoms from either are not so hot to live with, I do wish I could stop shaking.

I think Lucy has a lot on her plate at present. A lot of heavy decisions to make. I hope she returns at some point but I know that I too, sometimes tire of a particular forum for a while or indeed, all forums.

Cider, I wanted to share my “Fresh from press” Coffee and bread with you.
This is the bread that I started last night and baked this morning.
All hand made.

For lunch today I prepared Pomme avec gratin avec capsicum avec onion rouge. A gastronomic delight made from whatever I could find in the fridge! (Jill was away on granny duty)

So what was the answer, Ciderman?

Lucky devil. In our fridge you'd be lucky to find more than a few stale cheese slices avec mould

The answer, admin, was that there was something on at the local Aero club in Waipukurau, about 7 km away.

It has been widely rumoured that Emirates were going to test land their Boeing A380 Airbus at Waipukurau to see if it could become a commercially viable stopover on the trans Tasman route.
Or was in a microlight convention … flying lawnmowers?
Michael, a small problem (true). I ran my spell check over this post and Waipukurau was immediately rejected. I'm not sure you are going to like this, but it gave me Viagra as a possible substitute. Any comment?

Well we could call it “Water where the pukurau grows” . See what spellcheck thinks of that!

Quick Maori translation needed:
Water in Maori is 'Wai'
Stomach in Maori is 'Puku'.
Rau in Maori means entangle in a net.
So it would seem someone went fishing with a net, got it tangled with something a little too big for their stomach. I bet it was put in a hangi and eaten.

That must be why it was never a written language Robin. We do seem to grow quite a bit of 'pukurau' around here – I'm not sure if I would be brave enough to eat it unless I was in the presence of a 'kaumatua' and he was eating too!

This is just a test run and as it happens the culinary delight of “Pomme d'avec,d'avec'd'avec”
For some reason the forum wouldn't accept pic files but it has now. So all's well.

It's really 'pomme de terre' Doreen with cheese , red onions, capsicums (bell peppers to Americans) and some special pickle that my Jilly makes! The really skilful bit was the 2 minutes in the microwave on “Combi” setting. (Part microwave, part grill)

Love the bread Doreen. I make my own bread too. This loaf is made with French flour, and also hand made.

French flour, Farine. Did the flour come all the way from Paris.
I would love to take a bite
Doreen behave.
You see it is Whitsuntide here, holiday time.
Tomorrow is Whit- Monday and all the shops are closed.
I think that you don't do Whitsuntide anymore.
That is sensible for we are celebrating something that we know could not have happened.

No the flour did not come from France it's just a French blend. It's made by http://www.wessexmill.co.uk. I get the flour from our local farm shop. They do lots of different blends. I like to try different flavours
When I was little we had Whitsun and it was a Bank Holiday I'm not sure when they changed it but its now called Spring Bank Holiday and it's on the last weekend of May.
