This may not be a term that you are au fait with. In NZ schoolkids in 'mufti' means not wearing school uniform. It's usually associated with some special occasion. This time at grandson Jacks school it was a fundraiser for the Red Cross and Christchurch. Jack came home with a note for his mum saying that it was a mufti day and donations would be accepted for the relief effort for the victims of the quake. Lucy gave Jack $10 to take but he said he had some money to take. He had emptied his 'Piggy bank' – a total of $25 and some cents. He said that he could wait for the “Hot wheels” toy he was saving up for- because the people in Christchurch didn't even have proper toilets.
At 71 years old , the tears welled up in my eyes!

Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol. http://cidermannz.blogspot.com/

My thoughts to your post Michael

“But still a Ruby kindles in the Vine”.

..and that was written a thousand years ago- by my dear old friend, Khayyàm.

Shed your tears, they were happy tears.

I have not heard of mufti. I have to say Jake is a very special boy and you should be very proud of him. It's very heart warming.Laugh

Mufti is also an expression used to describe a police or traffic police vehicle that is unmarked. These usually have a speed camera in the back and are brilliant revenue earners for the government.

Unfortunately, the drivers of those vehicles are rarely talked of in glowing terms, the fines can also bring tears to the eyes as I once discovered much to the detriment of my bank balance. Cry
