Last night and today, we had two grandkids stay. I had left my computer on and before we knew it 4 year old Jack had jumped into facebook and had played about 10 games of various sorts. All the notices, of course, said it was me!! He had played games that I had never heard of!

Am I a total oddball? I have never visited Face book and I have never visited Twitter. Am I missing out on something?

Not a thing. We update our Facebook and Twitter pages every day and still I have no idea what they're about

I only joined Facebook because of my sister. When she went backpacking for 16 months and ended up in Oz where she had a visa for a year, she travelled all over and even went to New Zealand. She would put her photos up to Facebook and let everyone know how she was and what she was doing. It's a cheap and easy way to keep in touch with family and friends. She now has a new visa and is hoping to spend New Year in Sydney.
I don't know much about Twitter but I think of it being more of a news feed. Thirdage is on both.

Facebook is the only one I frequent. It's a useful connection point with friends and family and also with various sites like our museum , Thirdage and Waipawa town. I've also established a connection with Bermuda, which is a nostalgic connection with my childhood and the school that I attended in Colchester in 1951-2.

Ciderman of course has a good point, ME. It is a very useful tool for keeping in touch. Brilliant in fact. My problem, being a bit of a dinosaur, is that I have seen it being used to take the place of proper communication by today's youngsters and that's when I start to lose interest in something. Think perhaps I'm just getting too old for this game

Doreen, I think it's 'Me' who has the problem. I love writing and I love it even more when reading the replies. For keeping in touch with family and friends I use E-mail, surely there is no finer tool, or at least I can't think of one.
Writing has become a forgotten art and I fear it will decline even further with the advent of text and the horrible text English. When someone is down then there is nothing better that a letter from a distant friend, it's almost as good as the healing process. To 'Me', somehow the symbolised letters of How R U, simply hold no appeal, and if that was the best I could I would be ashamed. I might add I got such a message from a very close relative whilst in hospital, it did nothing for my recovery.

You are so right, it is lovely to get a letter. I can't remember the last time I got one. My aunt and I email each other, which I love, but I've been a bit lax lately. I must write and see how she is. My nan used to chat on the phone to her sister every weekend and still write her a few pages during the week. I thought that was nice.
My brother will say 'hi' on Messenger and he sends part word and part picture messages. I can't understand a word he is saying and I hate it. And when my sister sends a text she will say u instead of you. I know why she does it. U is one character and 'you' is three, so if you're limited on how many characters you can text you are going to abbreviate it. Sometime when I send a text I exceed the quota because I don't abbreviate, and it ends up sending two text messages instead of one. So it's cheaper to shorten words if you can. I still hate it though!

I don't like texting but I acknowledge it's convenience. It doesn't seem to matter how much I put in a text , it still seems to go as one. Most of my calls are incoming so I'm surprised if I use $20 a year. If I don't it sort of expires at the end of the year. Bit of a racket on Vodophone's part I think. After all, I cost them nothing. I don't use 'text-speak' much, although my daughter does and is very adept at rattling off messages. Most of my messages consist of 'Yes', 'no' , 'soon' 'or maybe'. One of my sons is similarly laconic on mobiles so we have very short conversations!

Neither do I 'tis Me. So we are two oddballs!?
I just haven't time for such things.
My friends pop in for a coffee and a chat and I enjoy that.
For what I enjoy I find time.

We are all oddballs when compared to others. I love the internet but I also love handwriting and I find writing a letter in copperplate style (all joined up) very relaxing and therapeutic.
I think we need to accept that we are all different in our tastes and likes and dislikes and that if 'Me' doesn't like TV then that's ok and if I do then that's ok too. It doesn't mean I am stupid and conversely it doesn't make non-tv watchers any wiser or better than myself. It's just a personal preference after all, not wrong or right but just different.
I used to read a lot of historical novels and thoroughly enjoyed them until a friend was rather disparaging and said that I should be reading meatier and more up-to-date and relevant fiction more suitable for my age. I was quite offended by the inference that I was somehow a bit lightweight and I would never have said anything like that to someone myself.
There none so queer as folk as they say.

It would be a very boring place if we all liked the same thing.
Ciderman, I see you have a new personal record at Bricks Breaking – 4435 points.

They are amazing. Kids today can often us a mouse and keyboard before they can even write their name.
