Pet-Friendly Holidays
A Third Age Holidays feature
by our Holidays & Travel Editor

Pet-Friendly Holidays are definitely on the increase. Holiday providers seem to have woken up to the fact that many of us, particularly those of us in our Third Age, are rather attached to our pets. We are hardly able to enjoy our holidays knowing that our beloved pets are likely to be fretting in our absense, couped up in a kennel or cattery back home.

The answer? A Pet-Friendly Holiday where the owners of the hotel, guest house, holiday let, camping or caravan site or other holiday establishment are happy for you to bring your pet on holiday with you.

Of course certain rules still have to apply.

It would be unfair on someone prepared to let your pet stay with you in their holiday accommodation to leave your pet alone in a strange place while you go off sightseeing for the day. So always take your pet with you when you go out.

Some Pet-Friendly Holiday providers may not be able to cater for cats or unusual pets, so always check their terms before booking your holiday.

While many holiday providers are more than happy to cater for your dog as well as you, there may well be a restriction on the number of dogs they will accept. So if you have more than one dog, always check with the holiday provider to make sure that will be acceptable.

So how do you find out which holiday providers offer Pet-Friendly Holidays?

Well, those nice people at the Automobile Association have just published Pet Friendly Places to Stay 2010 (AA Lifestyle Guides), their essential guide for pet owners wishing to take their pets on holiday with them, fully updated for 2010.

Additional information is included such as exercise areas, charges, food, resident pets and whether your pet can stay in the room unattended.

The guide includes over 1,200 establishments from AA inspected hotels and B&Bs, country-house hotels and seaside accommodation, plus campsites that accept dogs, cats and horses so you can book your stay with confidence. Prices, opening times, directions, contact details and map locations are shown throughout.

So now you and your pet can now truly enjoy your holiday together!
