I was always told to help ripen tomatoes by putting them in a brown paper bag with some that are already ripe to speed up the ripening process for the others. Well it does work but it takes a long time.

Late week I was watching Gardeners World on the BBC and they suggested putting your tomatoes in a box with a ripe banana and covering it with a clear propagator lid. I didn't have one so I used some bubble wrap and just laid it on top. It works. It has been 3-4 days and I have some ripe tomatoes already!

I only grew cherry tomatoes this year which I picked and ate standing by the plant.

When this idea works then it is fabulous. I shall pass it on to my daughter.
