I was never a real fan of Rod Stewart, that is up until he recorded the series of CD's paying respect to the great American songbook. His renditions were a delight, and anyone who can bring back the true music of yesteryear deserves all credit. My wife was given his latest CD for Christmas, 'Soulbook'. Again his own style injected into big hits soul music of the last twenty or so years. Long may he keep this work up, for his voice, although still possessing a certain acceptable rough edge, has a quality only brought about by longevity.
Happy Birthday Rod.

Rough edge! What an understatement! Bit rough in the middle too!

Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol.

Maybe so, but the beginning is simply sublime.
Odd, there have been many singers who over the years, rather like a good wine, have improved with age. It would seem a good vintage really is well worth cellaring. In many respects the same attribute can be said of Tony Bennett, his voice is hardly pristine and yet … ?
