Today I am inside and outside and sorting out my thoughts.

Sorting out my Hobbies.

My number one is computers, an expensive hobby

Number two is my Garden  and I could make number three…. Forums..

I have met so many different types of posters from around the world.

Had invitations to visit far away places.

Forums do need a lot of my time, yes I shall think about it.

But first a little digging to do outside.Smile

What problems Doreen? I hear this often but have never experienced them. I have Firefox and Google Chrome but hardly ever use them. I have Safari at work at the museum and it's a pain! So I'm happy with IE.

Agree 100% Cider, interesting that most FF users still have to fall back on IE to carry out certain tasks.Cool

Dear Cider and Mr Hammer,  If you prefer using Microsoft and Internet Explorer then I would be last person to persuade you to change your minds

For me Microsoft is a Mono pol and doesn't allow compatibility with other systems.

It is very slow against Firefox  starting up the Web Browsers and speed is a key factor.

It is more virus prone, spy ware etc. The hackers love it.

It is less user friendly.  when “right clicking your mouse less tabs.

Microsoft EXEL (which I use) has many disadvantages.

FireFox users only fall back on IE when they have no choice due to IE compatibility.

Can you buy a computer which hasn't Microsoft pre installed ???

Yes but I choose not to.  I don't find any difference speedwise Doreen and they are all subject to 'patches' from time to time. I noticed on an American forum that I frequent, that there is a German warning currently on Firefox vulnerabilities.

I don't use Excel, I 've found Works is adequate for my needs and all the s/s, d/b Word processor are all in one.

I sometimes think that Microsoft suffers from “tall Poppy Syndrome” , like MacDonalds. If it's successful, chop it down.Smile

Perhaps if we spare a moment and think only about computers

(I am at the moment trying to clean all the winter grime off my outside table)

In between I come in and write here

Computers are a wonderful invention.

Me here in Switzerland and writing o you in NZ this morning  and getting a reply.

Reading both German and English newspapers.

I have to translate from German into English and send an e- mail to China ordering electric bits.

Yesterday I paid my bills on line.

I save telephone bills by e-mailing my two children and Grandchildren.

You can have my television but NOT my computer.

So what matter which browser or system we use as long as it works.

Does it really matter who uses what? It is down to choice and being comfortable in the skin one employs.

Yes I don't know how we managed before. Well, I do, but it's easier now!

At the museum where I work we were given a film strip reader by a bigger museum but it had a broken drive belt. In two days I had located an agent and ordered new belt from the makers in the US, paid by m/card. It arrived 6 days later. Minimal cost. Minimal effort. Wonderful.

Yes that  is how it is today.

I started when I was young with computers.

My husband taught me a lot. My first computer was an Atari.

It had no mouse and I had to work with the keyboard telling  it what to do..DOS.

And now my mouse has no tail… Laugh

My first was in 1981 called a Sinclair ZX81. It had 1k of memory but could be expanded by use of a tape recorder to 16K !!! Wow! I played a game called “Jet Set Willy” for ages. The ZX81 plugged into your old TV

I started with a Texas Instruments 99/4A in 1982 or 3 and it actually had a memory of 1 MB – big time in those days.  I even wrote a couple of programmes for it and typed in a number of others from the magazine that TI published which were saved on a tape recorder !

It was a Christmas present for my two daughters but I know who got the most pleasure from it.  Embarassed

We have talked about Past and Present Computers, I wonder what will be next.

Travelling on the train 2 weeks ago I watched a man fiddling with his large wrist watch until I noticed he was sending a SMS.

It must have been one of those  with an Internet connection. Cool

I have just sent an Osborne PC of 1981 vintage to a man in the South Island who is establishing a computer museum. It was left at our museum and it's not really our thing so better somewhere where it is appreciated.
