Cows in Norfolk Island have right of way in all circumstances!

And the speed limit is mostly 40kmph (sometimes 50 sometimes 30!)
The language is quaint!

The scenery is impressive and the locals friendly.

And there is macabre history everywhere from a compassionless and sadistic era.

“Bloody Bridge” where the convicts killed their overseer and buried him in the strcture of the bridge.

Petal would love having the right of way, then she would not need to be chained up. I love the photos, Norfolk Island looks lovely. Hope you and your wife had a lovely time. Nice to see you back.

I agree, nice to see you back Michael, you were really missed. I would like to say we have behaved ourself, but as you know with Doreen around that is an impossibility.

Just a few more:
This Tern, lays it's egg on a tree branch. It seems that it has never learned to make a nest so it parks the egg on a convenient branch. The egg still has to be rotated every now and again just like other birds, so I don't know how many times they say “DAMN!”

While the convicts were 20 to a cell at night the 'important' people lived on 'Quality Row'

And in case you should ever fall out of an airplane and land there:

I too enjoyed your Holiday Michael. I had no idea about Norfolk Island.
I liked the way they spelled the days of the week.
I am interested even though I doubt if I shall ever go there but I shall read it's history in GOOGLE.

Great photos Ciderman. It's amazing how evolution works. The birds obviously don't lose that many eggs otherwise they would lay them somewhere else. I have noticed the colonial houses all look very similar, there was obviously a floor plan they all followed. Norfolk Island looks like a very interesting place.

Just thought I'd add a little footnote about Norfolk. When we checked with the owners of the hire car, they said “Just take it to the airport” . I said “Where shall we leave the keys?”
“Just leave them in the car . We'll collect it sometime!”

If you left the keys in a car in the UK the car would not be there when you got back. It's a sad indictment but it's true. When we had all the snow and freezing weather a few weeks ago a man started his car on his drive and went back indoors with the car running so it could defrost. When he went back outside the car was gone.
