We popped into town yesterday. My husband thought it would be good for me to get some fresh air. I've not been feeling well lately. It must be a bug of some sort. I can't pin it down to anything and I don't know anyone who's ill. Anyway, that's enough of my woes. While we were out getting some shopping we had a little walk. On the river in Melksham there is a weir. In the winter you can't see the weir because the water gets so high and it floods all the fields the other side of town. While we were there, one of a team of divers got into the river and was swimming along the weir. You could not see him once he was in the water, all you could see was the bubbles. I think they were doing some maintenance before the weather gets very bad.

Lovely photos Annmarie
Yes getting out does often help when one is feeling low.
Melksham, where ever is that.
enjoy the winter Annmarie and do all the things that you don't have time for in summer.

This weir is etched deep in my subconscious! I fell in it when I was about 3 years old and had to be hauled out by my grandfather. When I was back in the UK in 2008 I went to see it. It was behind some scrubby trees and overgrown undergrowth by then and I left Jill by the car while I went to look for it. As I approached, although I have no memory of the weir, I felt a small surge of panic and an urge to pull back from the edge. I should point out that I am not afraid of water in fact I make a point of splashing about in sea or lake or river, but….. not here! Creepy how far back the subconscious can go!

Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol.

You're right, it does look very creepy. I have to say I prefer to swim in a swimming pool. I like to know what's under me. I will swim in the sea but the water must be clear and warm. As a child I would swim in the sea on holiday in Devon but now I think I would find the water too cold in the UK.
Melksham is a small town near where I live in Wiltshire. I do some of my shopping there. There are not many shops but it has a large Sainsbury's (groceries and products) good quality food and it has a small Waitrose (more upmarket groceries). I like Waitrose in particular. I go in there when I want a treat. The food is more expensive but it's the best quality. Waitrose is part of the John Lewis group.
