Just got back home the traffic was terrible. I'm very tired because its been so hot and our air con has stopped working in the car. I'm going to make dinner and water the garden. I will have more tomorrow.

White frost outside this morning.
Minnie the Foxy attempted the world record for dog wee on the white lawn! Then back under her covers!

Michael, don't tell us you have a dog that can write its name in the snow (or frost) you will make a fortune.
I am given to understand that one of the recent winners in the UK talent show “Britain's Got Talent”, was a dog that could dance, well Minnie can certainly top that!!!
I'm told this show has gone off the Boyle this year.

Well it's hot here.
We went to Cornwall for a few days and decided to visit Bodmin. On the way there we were chatting and not really concentrating on where we were going, and the next thing we know we had gone the wrong way and ended up in Bude instead. We were walking down Bude high street and walking towards us suddenly is my brother and his wife who lives a couple of hundred miles away. Can you believe it! Here is a photo of us having tea.

The town near were we stayed was Launceston (pronounced Lawnston in the UK) and it had a Norman castle that was built shortly after the Norman conquest.

The Southgate arch dates back to the 13th century.

There was a blue plaque on one particular building in the centre of the town. We have blue plaques on buildings to signify that somebody famous or somebody who did something important, once lived there. This plaque was for Philip Gidley King. He is best known as the official founder of the first European settlement on Norfolk Island and as the third Governor of New South Wales. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P…..idley_King

Lanceston is a beautiful town. It used to have a wonderful secondhand bookshop and I bought many an interesting book there on my way to holiday home!

We didn't see a secondhand bookshop. We even had trouble finding the town centre and parking was bad. We went around 5 times before we got a space.

While in Cornwall we stayed in a little village called Boyton near Launceston. The countryside is beautiful with no traffic noise. The river Tamar runs through there. One side of the river you are in Cornwall and you cross the bridge over the river and you're in Devon.
We stayed at a lovely B&B in the village. It was an old farmhouse call Dorset Farm. They have over 120 acres of land and it was stunning. The house was beautiful. The owner is a semi-retired farmer and his wife who have renovated the house and they are doing the same with the land which was once very neglected. The couple are lovely and so hospitable. It was so relaxing we didn't want to leave.
They are making walks over the land We had a short walk the first night. It was so peaceful and the wildlife amazing We stood watching the bats coming out from their roost for ages. The land goes all the way down to the river Tamar, a section of which they own. On a clear day you can see Dartmoor in one direction and the other way you can see Bodmin Moor. Stunning!

Just outside Bude is Widemouth Bay. We stopped in a carpark on top of the cliffs overlooking Widemouth Bay and had a walk. There were a lot of surfers in the water, the sea looked lovely but I bet it was cold. It is a lovely part of the country.

Is that a Bude bathing beach? I was told there was one at Brighton, but in my four visits I could never find it.
Michael might know, but I don't think we have them in New Zealand, although 'skinny dipping' is popular with the young … providing you don't get caught.

Bude?? I hope we never have them here! Quite disgusting! Buding in a public place should be against the law
(I know me, the 'B' and 'N' keys are alongside).
I have seen the occasional skinny dipper along Waimarama or Ocean Beach, usually when I'm driving about 4 miles from the road going fishing at Flat Rock.
We used to go to Ocean Beach when we lived in Havelock North and , as you would know, the road arrives high above the beach and you can see the car park before you descend. “Damn!” we would cry, “There's 5 cars in the carpark!” and the beach is only 6 miles long!

Michael, I know that feeling so well, I hate overcrowding. When writing to friends in the UK I am always complaining how crowded the beaches are, it's so frustrating. Another very annoying factor is the sand, it seems to get in everywhere, how I yearn for the pebbles on Brighton beach, the kind that cripple your feet and are often covered in tar (akin what's going on in Florida). Another very annoying thing is when people insist you collect pipips or tutuas from the sand, or even muscles or a paua or two from the rocks at the end of the beach (right hand side). Then if that's not bad enough you may need to carry out half a dozen plump Kahawhai, it would be rude not to pop a couple in the smoker.
You will be the only person on this board who will fully appreciate why I no longer visit the beaches, the sun and the heat … they're so damn primitive.
I don't mind telling you, spell check had some problems with this posts.
