Well it's the weekend again. I get up thinking about what are we going to do today, the sun is out maybe, we go for a picnic. Then I speak to my husband. He's been up since 7am. The broadband is down, he says, you will need to phone BT. (The account is in my name and they won't speak to anyone else). First thing in the morning I don't need that. It takes me a hour and two cups of tea before I come around.
I ring them, they say it's the power cable and they will send me one in the post. It will be with you Tuesday they say, and this is their Business service for which we pay approaching £50 a month purely for the broadband
I have a BT home hub from the original (standard) BT service which proved to be wholly inadequate for our needs, so we tried that. We were connected to the internet but all we could get was a BT page. So I phoned BT again and they said there was nothing they could do because they purely provide help for business broadband users and they did not know how the BT home hub worked. Are you with me?
As far as I'm concernd BT is one company, but if you speak to them it's lots of different companies She did give me my login information, so we rang our technical engineer and he suggested we buy another router, despite the fact that we will have to continue to pay for the one supplied by BT, just so we weren't offline for four days. He had one in stock, we gave him the login info and by the time we got to him, he had it set up simply to plug in and use when we got back. So today has cost me £70, and I didn't get my picnic. But I did have a Big Mac and a strawberry shake to console myself on the way back home.

We've certainly come to rely on internet connection! Last week when we were offline, I had to watch Television for God's sake!! It was awful!

Michael, you have my deepest sympathy. Our new home is completely wired up and working to such an extent we have moved in. However, the electrician has experienced problems with the plug on the television aerial. They have assured me the problem will be fixed next Tuesday, this despite my pleadings to defer the task indefinitely.
I am now running on Windows 7 home edition, this is far superior to Windows 2000. Well it sounds good but I haven't a clue what it means. It's so nice to be able to click on a site and it appears instantly on screen. In all the years I have had a PC I have never been able to do that before and this site would take an absolute age to load.

We have tried to build a site that loads quickly, but if your broadband is slow like mine, there's nothing much you can do. I'm still running Windows XP Professional. I don't now what the differences are between this and Windows 7 but I'm sure Michael does!

I happened to get a new PC just as Vista came out so we got that bundled. I've heard of so many problems with the early version of Vista , both 'Business' (like ours ) and 'Home', but aside from the first couple of months, when we were getting 'patches' almost everyday, we've had no problems.

We had to get a new computer around the time when Vista was first released but we had XP Professional put on despite the fact that it cost extra because we already had 2 machines with XP on the network and we didn't know if Vista was compatible with what we had.

Broadband should be very quick but it depends on your computer and your browser.
I have Glasfaser (sp) connections and I am on line in seconds 10 bis 1000 Megabit/Sekunde.

Gosh! You are so lucky Doreen. What I would give to have broadband like yours. Fibreoptics – it's the bees knees.

Fibre Optic, a new English word for me !!
Every body in the district where I live has glasfaser connections for both Television and Internet.
… but I expect you have a lot of things which I would like and don't have.
We don't have Sunday shopping and people don't mow their lawns on Sunday.
My life is probably different to yours—Not better, not worse just different.

They can use Fibre optics for lighting as well. It is amazing stuff.
I can't think of anything we have that you would like Doreen. I love the idea of the shops being closed and no lawn mowers on Sundays, it all sounds so civilised. We don't cut the grass on Sunday because of the noise polution, but our neighbours do. Sunday should be a quiet day that you spend with the family or loved ones not shopping or mowing the lawn.
