Well not anymore they don'tCry (The title is a slogan from an old Cadbury's advert)

It has been announced that Cadbury's is about to accept an offer from US firm Kraft. I'm sure it was only a couple of weeks ago that the Chairman of Cadbury's (I think it was the Chairman, or someone on the board) was saying that they would never sell out to the US. What happened? Well the money was increased of course.

I just hope we don't loose the distinct brand (and taste) of Cadbury's chocolate. Frown No doubt Creme Eggs will now come in small, regular, large and megga sizes.SurprisedConfused

Cadbury's over here started putting coconut oil in their mix instead of cocoa oil, to make it softer, they said (what they really meant was to make it cheaper to produce!) A local chocolate maker called Whittakers, pointed this out to the public and there was such a stink about it that they apologised and went back to the original recipe!

Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol. http://cidermannz.blogspot.com/

It seems that the Takeover has actually gone ahead overnight, dependent upon the Votes of Shareholders of course.  At the end of the day, the power rests with the Consumer.  I'm not happy about it and shall not buy any Cadbury's products in future.  There are plenty of good alternatives out there, small independent chocolate producers – and of course the Fair Trade ones.

Can I recommend Lily O'Brien chocolates?  They can be found in most Supermarkets and are outstandingly delicious.  I doubt if the Company has become bit enough yet to have made it 'down under' but the beauty, quality and taste of the chocolate has to be experienced.  Despite being an Irish girl, she is not a relative and I have no shares in the Company

I've have Lily O'Brien chocs before and yes, they are good. I also like Lindt (which is Swiss). My favourite is probably Galaxy which is very smooth.

Haworth is a Fair Trade village and we have a Fair Trade Fortnight coming up at the end of February.
