I'd be interested to know how the media outside the UK has been reporting on the UK's General Election, and in particular the fact that we now have a hung parliament. We had an issue for example because certain polling stations were turning away potential voters because polling closes at 10pm and these people were still queuing outside at that time. One particular political commentator said that such things only happened in the third world and it made me wonder how other countries viewed some of the things that go on here in the UK.

I know what is happening in the Uk as I read my Swiss newspaper and the Daily Telegraph each day.

In my Swiss paper there was more written about the sale of Harrods than your 3 party system.

Also more Global news. There is so much trouble in the world today and that is what newspapers write about.

Perhaps we think that which ever party wins it wont  matter or change anything.

Your election has certainly made headlines in New Zealand, but sadly for all the wrong reasons. There are many people from the UK who are on working contracts in NZ, and as such, they are entitled to vote … quite right too. One slight problem, somewhere along the line somebody forgot to send the ballot papers to the British Embassy in Wellington. To say the voters were not happy would, understandably, be putting it mildly. The authorities blamed the lack of papers on the volcanic ash from Iceland grounding flights, I prefer the idea of the hot air from Westminster.

If papers are loaded onto a plane at London Heathrow, they will be in Auckland 36 hours later. Long haul flights resumed at least two weeks ago, there can be no excuse on this one. I guess if they can't manage to get enough ballot papers to polling booths in the UK, then NZ stood no chance at all.

Most interesting guys. We are a small island that has forgotten it is no longer a great nation. We naturally assume what we are reading in our newspapers or viewing on our TV news is also being read and watched around the world which is invariably not the case of course.

As for the lack of organization, I would agree, it is absolutely appalling and unforgivable. As a much younger person, I used to wonder at how the likes of say the Roman Empire could possibly fail given its size, its power and its global reach. Well we are seeing exactly that happen here. I would imagine seeing it from the outside in, it could be laughable. But trust me, seeing it from the inside is simply horrifying.

And I'm not sure about elsewhere in the world, but here at least, no one has to take responsibility any more. In the old days ('when I were a lad'), whoever failed to get those ballot papers on the plane to Wellington would have been sacked, no questions asked. Today, they just have to say sorry and they are free to go on to their next faux pas because sacking them would be against their human rights!
