For the first time in 30 years, Dame Julie Andrews is set to grace a UK stage once again. The 74-year-old singer and actress is set to appear for one night only with an ensemble of five other performers accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, at London’s 02 arena on 8 May 2010.
Dame Julie, most famous for her role as Mary Poppins in The Sound of Music, has rarely performed on stage since surgery on her throat went wrong at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 1997.
An Evening With Julie Andrews will feature Oscar winner Dame Julie performing some of her best-known songs from stage and screen, as well as her narrating from children’s book Simeon’s Gift which she co-wrote with her daughter.
“To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment,” Dame Julie said.
“It is where it all began for me, and I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences.”
The show, which will take the audience on a 50-year trip down memory lane, will include hits from The Sound Of Music, The King And I, South Pacific and Carousel.
So if you’re in your Third Age and fancy a trip down memory lane with Dame Julie Andrews, book those tickets early because it’s bound to be a sell-out!
