Apparently the BBC is seeking to recruit a female newsreader over the age of 50. It seems as though the Third Age has finally come of age!
Having previously denied ageism after replacing Strictly Come Dancing’s 66-year old judge Arlene Phillips with 30-year old Alesha Dixon, the BBC seems more aware than ever of the need for presenters of varying ages and backgrounds. While it seems that broadcasters in general have had little problem with older male presenters, older female presenters may have been less welcome.
All that, it seems, is about to change!
