Glassblowing, the technique of forming glass into distinctive shapes by first ‘blowing’ the molten glass into a bubble over extreme heat, was first developed by the Phoenicians over 2,000 years ago.
Until the end of the 19th century and the development of the Glassblowing technique using compressed air, Glassblowing by hand, as first developed by the Phoenicians, was still very much the principle method of creating glass articles.
Today, early in the 21st century, the craft of Glassblowing, along with many other traditional crafts, has witnessed something of a resurgence, particularly with creative hobbyists keen to learn new skills for themselves as well as maintaining traditional crafts that might otherwise be lost forever.
