Further evidence of the Third Age revolution that is taking place sees the forthcoming launch of a new radio station set up by former Radio 1 DJs Adrian John, Mike Read, Paul Burnett, Pete Murray, Ed Stewart and David Hamilton.
One Gold, which launches next month on 1395AM, intends to play classic tunes, the kind of music that other radio stations decline to play.
Pete Murray (84), Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart (68), Mike Read (62), Paul Burnett (65), ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton (71) and Adrian John (53), with a combined age of over 400, were once the cornerstone of Radio 1, attracting millions of listeners to some of the most popular radio broadcasts ever. Now they’re back and hoping to attract the kind of listeners they once did – us!
“Radio isn’t playing the old music as we know it any more, so it’s a great opportunity to come in with a station which plays the artists most others now ignore,” says Ed Stewart.
At ThirdAge.co.uk we say ‘Encore’ to that!
For all the pleasure they gave us in the past, we owe it to them to support their efforts. After all, they’ll not just be playing the kind of music they want to play. They’ll be playing the kind of music we want to hear.
So watch this space for the official launch date, and tune in to One Gold, “the Best Sound in Britain” on 1395AM!
