A 55-year old Staffordshire man has proven beyond doubt that our Third Age can truly be our Golden Age.
Terry Herbert, an unemployed amateur metal detecting enthusiast discovered the UK’s largest haul of Anglo-Saxon treasure ever found, on a friend’s farm near his home in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
In total some 1,500 pieces of gold and silver artifacts were discovered including helmet crests, gold crosses and semi-precious stone fitted sword fittings.
Declared Treasure Trove, the haul is likely to earn Mr Herbert and his friend a 7-figure sum each.
